But it is no joke. Indeed, the NYTimes, evidently seriously, declared :. Wyze did not create a home internet camera for a tenth of the price of rivals by skimping on quality. There is no way this company will be around in a year without a serious pivot. Who is going to pay the AWS bill indefinitely?

It is just the way the lighting is in the room this was shot in. Ah, ok. Not sure why, but I was assuming that just the camera moved back further. Thanks for clearing that up. Also, ironically, Wyze is selling their version at less price than online pricing for the Xiaomi one. I'm not sure. I have two of these at my house and they are decent enough for what I need. I have found that they are VERY active on Redditand most support issues have been resolved there quickly.

They are even addressing some of the network security concerns some users had after doing wireshark analysis on the traffic. I am not using any of the alert features, which means I am not using any of the AWS stuff either.

I did not see the need for it. Scott, good feedback, thanks! I am sure it works for some people but I doubt it works for most. I habe no idea if that was an intentional choice or not, I stumbled onto it by mistake. It is a good resource though if they keep it up.

Update, Wyze has launched a forum with this strange marketing video :. Recent article: Business Insider - How a tiny camera startup is taking on Amazon and Googlekey quotes:. Would like to see a Browser way of viewing these multiple streams at once or a app on pc, I have three of these in my house, the android app is nice but only allows for 1 view at a time.

They have a workaround for pc, but it involves a virtual box to run android and run an instance of the wyze app, but it is a resource hog. Each instance allows for only 1 view at a time. I have personally tested it and can confirm it works with Spectrum, Milestone, etc. This is a common question on Wyze forums. Unfortunately, the Wyze cameras are not compatible with the ONVIF protocol yet but there are other ways to make the cameras work with third-party software.

I'm writing this article in and to date, there's no statement from the Wyze official web site about plans for the implementation of this protocol. Back there, the Wyze Cam team was considering a possible future implementation of the protocol but two years later there's no new about such consideration.

In a nutshell, ONVIF is a standard protocol that allows the interconnection between devices such as IP cameras, recorders, software and other devices used on access control systems, even if they are from different manufactures. That's simple. Talking again about the Blue iris software, it widely uses this protocol for most of the camera set up and communication, the same is true for Angelcam cloud.

So, basically, you just need to change the approach and look for solutions that accept RTSP for communication. It's possible to trigger actions based on events that happen on the Wyze Cam. Wyze cameras ONVIF compatible is a dream for a lot of people that love this awesome product, however, it's not a reality yet.

Anyway, you can still use other platforms and protocols as a workaround. Wyze cam record to cloud. How to change Wyze Cam WiFi. Why is wyze cam in black and white mode? How to reset the Wyze Cam v2. As I mentioned before, Onvif Open Network Video Interface Forumis an Open Industry aimed to facilitate the communication of IP based video products with other devices that are not necessarily from the same manufacturer.

In my opinion and as a rule of thumb I always configure each device first to avoid any misconfigurations, then I will end connecting these to the recorder.

The settings and access setup is the same throughout the entire TP-Series Cameras. Some settings such as brightness, sharpness, WDR, etc need to be adjusted depending of the environment where the cameras are mounted. Like any IP based device it will require to know its IP address, or at least have a way to find it.

These cameras come with a default IP of The first step to connect to the camera is to find its IP. Select the resultant IP address and here you can change some settings such as port, IP address, mask, etc.

I suggest to only change IP Address related settings and not change the ports. Click on Configure to access the settings of the camera and begin enabling features like Motion, Schedule, Resolution, etc. This is one of the main features that you should configure to allow the camera to record when there is movement. Once there, click on the top check mark to enable motion and proceed to select the Motion detection Area.

The higher the number the more sensitive to movement the camera will be. NOTE: when you move to another menu and decide to come back to the Motion Alarm settings, you will notice that the area you have selected for motion will not show up.

Encoding will be one of the most fundamental settings you will need to understand and configure correctly. These settings will allow you to setup how the camera will broadcast the video resolution and quality to the NVR and smartphones.

The settings above are the most common when it comes to configuring the Main Stream of the camera. These settings will be the ones the NVR will record with and it will affect the quality of the recordings if this is set incorrectly. You should set your cameras this way but sometimes it will be necessary to decrease these settings if you lack on bandwidth to stream IP cameras over the Internet.

The Sub Stream is basically how you will see your cameras over a smart phone or tablet. I also happen to have 4 wyzecam cameras. I would be amazing to add these camers to my NVR, then I could use my current NVR remote view application to view the camera in the same way I view my exterior cameras.

It also solves a lot of requests by default. It would also allow for more storage options for footage, including sending footage to cloud accounts, again, like my NVR would allow me to do. I know that ONVIF support can be hacked into these cameras, because these are actually the identical cameras to the Xiaofang cameras that are sold in China and some very smart people have already created custom firmware to enable this feature and others.

I should also mention that I work for a local MSP that also offers access control, fire and security monitoring and full range survillance systems. I know our owner is specifically interested in this product as it could be a huge game changer in the residential customer space, where price is a huge factor.

As it is right now, 3rd party suppliers would have a hard sell with these, but if ONVIF support was added along with keeping the current feature set with a few tweaksthis would be even more of a segment disruptor than it already is poised to be!

We understand this is a popular request from our customers. Our engineering team is evaluating this feature for future development. You can sign up for our newsletter at the bottom of our website or follow the WyzeCam Facebook page get updates as new features are added to the WyzeCam.

Supporting a standard protocol opens you up to lots of additional functionality - footage archival on a NAS, third-party apps with more features I have one that allows casting of any camera it controls, so I can put it up on the big-screen with no effort required from the vendorand integration with large-scale security systems for managing large numbers of cameras as in many of the posts above.

The app is largely well-designed and the hardware feature set is comprehensive, but it needs to be a bit more open. The founders of Wyze are former Amazon employees and they use AWS as their cloud storage exclusively. Keep in mind you are asking for them to make an investment into a standard that NVR and surveillance systems use that is akin to pairing your phone to a headset or speaker via Bluetooth. There are protocols, standards, possible certifications, etc.
